You probably know someone in your life that has an unusual hobby. Some people collect common things, but others have a collection of things of which you would never have thought. My father in law is a ‘car guy’ but he also likes John Deere. While I am not sure why he is such an avid collector, I realize that he has his reasons and there is nothing wrong with surrounding yourself with the things you like the most. He probably has a emotional connection, and that is usually why these things happen. Each year, we look for something to add to his John Deere collectibles set when we buy him a gift.
What I didn’t realize is that there is more to a John Deere collectibles set than just hats, coats, and the tractors. He has two tractors that he found for a great price, and he is combining them into one for a working model of a very old tractor. He has the hats, and he has a few coats and t shirts. We know that this means we have to find something else, but we had no idea what we were going to do. We looked through stores, but we really didn’t find much to add to his John Deere collection. Instead of giving up, we looked elsewhere.
I first tried online auction sites, and I found a few things made with the John Deere logo that we could get for him. I was surprised at all of the things that I found. One of the neatest was a set of Christmas tree bulbs. Though we did not get them when I found them, as it was too late to get them for Christmas, we do plan on getting them this year. There were all types of different things we could get him for his John Deere collectibles set, so I made a note to look through auction sites a bit earlier this year so we could get him those hard to find things.
We also found something for John Deere collectibles in an antique store. I had never thought to look there, but that was where we should have looked first. The one thing my husband thought would have been the best gift was a pocket knife that had the John Deere logo on it. This gift was one that was greatly appreciated, as he had never seen one before. Even if you are not looking for John Deere, you can find all types of items for any collection through online auction, antique stores, and many specialty web sites you can find through the Internet. Just remember to shop early.
